Using Marquee Tool
This tutorial focuses on creating basic shapes with photoshop. Basic shapes are the building blocks of any graphic. It is important that you learn the tools to do so.
Create a new document with any dimension. I went with 400x400 pixels. On the left is your tools. Notice the first tool at the top left of your tool window. It is called a Marquee Tool. Click and hold down the marquee tool button. Notice the 4 options. A Rectangular marquee allows you to make a square or rectangular selection. An Elliptical marquee allows you to make an oval or circle selection. Choose the Rectangular Marquee tool first.
Create a new layer and click and drag on your document. Notice the blinking edges. This shows your selection. A selection can do many things. In this tutorial we're going to fill it with a color.
Click on the paint bucket in your tools and press inside your selected area. Your selection will now become whatever color you had in your foreground color. Do the same with the Elliptical Marquee tool to make circles.
