Boxed Art

step 1

This technique can be used to promote products or to create mock up designs for packaging. In this tutorial, we will go over how to create the basic shape of a box and how to apply the 2D art onto it.

step 2

Select your rectangle tool and make a rectangle. Apply a light 1px wide stroke to it.

step 3

Press CTRL+T to go to the transformation mode. Right click the rectangle and select "Skew". Drag the right corners up until it looks like the picture.

step 4

Duplicate this layer and place it behind the original layer. Position it so part of it is showing. Use the image for reference.

step 5

Now make a new layer and use your pen tool to draw a top cover. It should look like a skewed rectangle, but on its side. Apply a light 1px stroke on this one too.

step 6

Do the same for the side cover of the box.

step 7

Obtain an image you would like to put on the box and paste it on a new layer. I got mine from EA Games at http://www.ea.com/.

step 8

Resize this image until it is around the size of the box.

step 9

Now Press CTRL+T to get to the transformation mode. Right click the image and go to Skew. Skew the image until it matches the front cover of the box.

step 10

Now return to the top and side cover layers and change it's color to a color that matches the image. You can change the color by double clicking the layer and setting your "color overlay". Make sure the side and top covers are above all the layers that we just made.

step 11

Now duplicate the skewed front cover image and place it above the top cover layer. Skew this image until it matches the top.
